Research on organizational leadership consistently shows a gap between how leaders perceive their organizations and how employees experience them. This isn't because leaders are dishonest — it's because the higher you go, the less unfiltered feedback you receive.
Answer based on observable patterns, not intentions. The question isn't "Do you want people to feel safe raising concerns?" It's "Do people raise concerns without fear?"
Think of specific, recent examples. Each question includes a prompt to ground your answer in evidence. If you can't think of a concrete example, that's data.
Notice where you hesitate. If you find yourself thinking "I'm pretty sure this is true," you may not know for certain. That hesitation is worth paying attention to.
A humble approach to this scan will serve you better than an optimistic one. The goal isn't to score high. The goal is to see clearly.
